Welcome to My Retro Corner of the Internet
Welcome, dear visitor, to a little slice of the web that’s as unapologetically me as it gets. A site that doesn’t bow to marketing trends or algorithms, but instead revels in a simpler, more pixelated time. Here, the text is abundant, the illustrations are wonderfully blocky, and the font is unapologetically pixelated. This page isn’t about selling you anything or capturing your data—it’s about creativity, personality, and a bit of chaos. It exists because it can.
Marketing Today: Rambo with a Budget
Let’s get one thing out of the way. I’m not here to compete with the ad-driven noise of the internet. Modern marketing often feels like John Rambo storming through a jungle—firing endless rounds of budget at unsuspecting audiences, blowing up any sense of authenticity in the process. There’s a relentless obsession with capital as the solution to every problem, where connection, creativity, and humanity get left in the dust.
That’s why this site exists—because I can afford the rare luxury of being exactly myself. No pretense, no polished sales pitch. Just a static little corner of the web, powered by Eleventy, fueled by pixel art, and infused with personality.
The Tools behind the madness!
The Tools Behind the Madness
This site is as static as Eleventy demands it to be. The code was hammered together in Visual Studio Code, the Swiss army knife of editors. For the pixel art, Aseprite is my tool of choice—because when it comes to dithering, indexing, and making blocky masterpieces, nothing else comes close.
Now, let’s talk code. There’s a certain romanticism around phrases like “code is poetry.” Sure, that’s nice in theory, but I approach coding with a slightly different philosophy. I see code as a tool—practical, messy, and built to get the job done. If my code were a vehicle, it wouldn’t be a spotless luxury car. It’d be Furiosa’s war rig from Mad Max: Fury Road. Greased up, full of rust and spikes, a little rough around the edges—but reliable and unstoppable.
I don’t obsess over perfect syntax or pristine comments. My focus is functionality. The war rig might not win any design awards, but it delivers, and that’s what matters.
This site is lean and mean, clocking in at just 7.3MB—including all the assets. No database, no unnecessary baggage—just static files, keeping everything clean, fast, and simple. It’s a featherweight champion in the world of bloated web giants—a stripped-down, dust-caked dirt bike roaring across the wasteland. It carries only what’s needed—no chrome, no fluff—just raw, functional power. And those Google Lighthouse scores? A solid 95% to 100%. Think of it as rigging up a nitro boost on your war rig—lightweight, efficient, and built to tear through the digital dunes without wasting a single byte.
Is this a web giant?
The Joy of Imperfection
Design, on the other hand, is where I let myself get lost. Crafting pixel art, experimenting with palettes, and obsessing over dithering patterns—that’s where the magic happens. It’s a meditative process for me, even if the end result feels like it was pulled straight from 1995. It’s a celebration of imperfection and nostalgia, wrapped up in a retro aesthetic that’s as much about feeling as it is about form.
Why This Site Matters (To Me)
The internet is a noisy place. Everyone’s shouting, trying to stand out, trying to sell. But in that frenzy, the human connection often gets lost. This site is my small way of pushing back against that tide. It’s not here to solve problems, sell solutions, or optimize engagement. It’s here to exist, to celebrate creativity, and to remind me—and maybe you—of the simple joy of making something just because you can.
So, take a look around. Soak in the text-heavy, pixel-packed vibe. Maybe it’ll remind you to embrace your own quirks and passions, no matter how unconventional they may be.
And as the saying goes: always be yourself… unless you can be a unicorn. Then, obviously, be the unicorn. (Mine just happens to have a beard.)
